New Forest District Council have completed their maintenance works to restore Hurst Spit, following severe damage during winter storms in 2023 to 2024 and Storm Herminia earlier in the year.
With good weather conditions last week, over 11.000 tones of shingle were recycled to reinforce narrower, eroded areas and restore the functional performance of the spit. This will help to provide protection against flooding and erosion for Keyhaven and the surrounding areas this winter.
They are working in partnership with the Environment Agency, Hampshire County Council, Natural England and JBA Consulting to explore long-term, sustainable solutions for the coast between Hurst Spit and Lymington. Find out more on the Hurst Spit to Lymington website.
